Welcome to Early Years Foundation Stage
Our Nursery class welcomes the youngest Foundation Stage children from age 3. They will then progress to our Reception class the September after their 4th birthday.
Throughout our Foundation Stage we plan and support the seven areas of learning outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage document. The three Prime Areas cover Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication and Language, and Physical Development. The four Specific Areas cover development in Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design.
We, as a Foundation Stage staff, work closely to provide a broad and balanced curriculum incorporating both child-initiated and teacher led activities, which meet the needs of every child. Individual termly targets are set to ensure each child’s unique development. It is one of our priorities to foster a love of learning in all children. We do this by providing first-hand experiences and equipping them with the skills that will support them in becoming confident, curious and independent learners.
Our planning incorporates the observed needs and interests of the children to provide an inspiring basis for future learning and development. We provide both indoor and outdoor environments that are safe, secure, friendly and welcoming for our children.
It is in the Foundation Stage that children begin to learn about the sounds that letters make. At Christ The King we use Floppy's Phonics. This scheme is followed throughout the school until the children are confident and can use their phonic skills to help them read and spell.
The happiness and well-being of our children always comes first. The children develop a good understanding for safety and are given positive encouragement to play cooperatively and respectfully. This is supported further by the close relationship we develop with our parents.
By the time children leave the Foundation Stage we would expect them to be happy and confident in and around school, and ready to build on the knowledge and skills they have developed to enable them to access appropriate learning in Year 1.
Each of our children embarks on a unique learning journey through both Nursery and Reception that encourages them to imagine, create, experiment, question and explore through the safe and happy medium of play.
“We would love your children to join us for the ride.”
